Frequently Asked Questions
If your breaker panel is 40 years or older, or is a Federal Pacific, ZINSCO, or Challenger panel, you should consider replacing it. These panels were determined to be unsafe as they age, causing circuit shorts and fires. You may be denied homeowners insurance if you still have one of these panels, or considered high-risk. Installing a new panel may qualify you for discounts on your insurance.
Deuce Electrical can provide estimates based from Home Inspections. The cost to prepare estimates from these inspection reports is $190.00.
However, if the customer accepts the estimate and schedules to have the work performed, then we will apply the $175.00 as a credit on the final invoice.
If you have already purchased your new home, then we can provide an estimate at no charge.
The National Electric Code requires all residential breaker panels to include a Whole-House Surge Protector. A Whole-House Surge Protector protects your panel and circuits from external line surges that can come into your home and damage wiring, receptacles, switches, electronics, and appliances, costing you thousands of dollars in replacement costs. Exterior surges can be caused by nearby lightning, wind against power lines, black-outs, defective power-company transformers, and more. Deuce Electrical only provides surge protectors that are “specifically compatible” with your breaker panel and carry manufacturer warranties. To install a new surge protector, your panel must have TWO FREE BREAKER SLOTS available. We prefer to provide surge protectors that fit inside your panel, next to existing breakers.
In most cases, having a Whole-House Surge Protector in your panel may qualify you for discounts on your homeowner’s insurance policy. If you are eligible for a discount, your insurance company will request that Deuce Electrical complete one of their forms. We will be very happy to assist you if this becomes necessary.
Appliances such as refrigerators, washer/dryers, dishwashers, heating and air conditioning units have all become so advanced that they have sensitive integrated computer components. Putting individual surge protectors on each home device is ugly, can be dangerous if overloaded or not used properly, and only protect the individual device.
